Recliner chairs and sofas are a popular way of relaxing, allowing the user to lay back and get comfortable while also being supported.
They can take up a lot of space and require room in front of the chair for the footrest to be used. These layouts show how recliners can work in living rooms.
U-Shaped Furniture Layout with Recliner
This living room layout is based around a central area rug, with seating furniture positioned around three of the sides to make a U-shape.
A sofa makes up the bottom of the U-shape with two chairs at one side and a recliner at the other side. As these items take up a similar amount of space, it means the room is balanced out nicely.

Matching Recliner Living Room Layout
This living room features a leather sofa and a matching leather recliner armchair. They are set in an L-shape, which is angled towards both the corner fireplace and TV.
A central rug is positioned in the middle of the room, upon which a coffee table is placed, with a further matching end table at one side of the room underneath the window.
Another matching glass-topped side table sits between the recliner and the sofa, allowing a surface to be reached by anyone seated in the room to rest a drink or a book.

Spacious Lounge with Recliners
This large lounge features several recliner chairs positioned in three corners of the room, with a fireplace in the final corner. All of the chairs are angled so that they are facing the fireplace and the TV at the front of the room.
There are no coffee tables in the middle of the room, which means there is plenty of space for the armchairs all to be put into the recliner position at once. Recliner chairs work better with side tables rather than coffee tables so that the leg rest can be extended without issue.
However, a sofa positioned in front of the window in this room does benefit from a coffee table.

Simple Living Room Layout
This living room features a simple layout with a matching set of recliner sofas and chairs. The sofa is set at the back of the room, while the two armchairs are positioned at the opposite end in either corner. They are angled facing towards the center of the room, making the space a nice social area ideal for people to talk to each other while relaxing.
A coffee table and matching side table are used for functional surface areas, and as they are made of glass, they add to the simple style of the living room and enhance the space by not blocking any sightlines.

Large Lounge Layout with Recliner Chairs
This is a generously spaced living room with two sofas and two chairs, and it still has plenty of empty floor space left over. The two sofas are positioned in an L-shape, and the addition of two recliner chairs on another side means that the final shape made by the seating furniture is a horseshoe shape.
One sofa is served by a coffee table, while the other has a side table at one end. A further table is positioned between the recliner chairs, giving them a space to put down drinks as well as space to extend the leg rests on the recliners. A central rug adds warmth to the space and ties the whole look together.

Movie Theatre Style Living Room Layout
This living room has had its furniture laid out in a way that replicates a movie theatre to achieve a home theatre style experience. Four recliner armchairs are all set in a row facing the TV, with each pair separated by a side table for storing drinks and snacks.
The room also features a window seat and an additional armchair with a footstool so that the space can also be used for socializing or parties.

Cozy Living Room Layout
This living room features a sofa and recliner armchairs set out in an L-shape facing a corner fireplace. This is an ideal setup for relaxing in front of the fire, watching the TV which is positioned above the fire, or socializing.
The layout of the room also means that anyone seated on the sofa or recliner can watch what is going on in the backyard, for example, to keep an eye on children playing or simply enjoying flowers in bloom.

Recliner Chair in Small Living Room
This room is quite small, but it still provides plenty of seating. There is a sofa and two armchairs which are huddled close together in a circle. There is no coffee table, but instead, there is an ottoman that could double up as a coffee table if you put a tray on it, or it could be used as a footrest.
Built-in units occupy one entire wall, providing plenty of storage space without the need for any additional furniture. The TV is also fitted inside the wall units, facing directly towards the sofa for optimal viewing.

Bright Lounge with Recliners
This bright room benefits from plenty of natural light coming into the space through the sliding glass doors, which take up almost one entire wall. The layout of the room is based around this feature, with a recliner sofa facing the sliding doors in order to enjoy the view and the sense of extended space.
A TV is set in the corner next to the glass doors, which makes practical sense so that the light flooding through the doors won’t shine onto the screen and obstruct viewing. A recliner armchair is set to one side, and a coffee table in the middle of the room is accessible to both the chair and sofa for setting down drinks or other small items.
Enough room has been allowed in front of the chair so that it could be used in recliner mode without the footrest hitting the coffee table.
